Skate Therapy
The skate therapy program is an evidence-based model that fuses the rush of skateboarding with mind-body therapy, for children and young people who are exposed to high levels of trauma, violence, and adversity.
1. COMPETENCE
Gaining mastery over challenging tasks and having new experiences are essential for developing a cohesive sense of self. Skateboarding offers the perfect playground to experience and practice both.
2. RELATEDNESS
People need to experience a sense of belonging and connection to other people. Skateboarding has an inclusive character, enabling social interactions and positive friendships.
3. AUTONOMY
People need to feel in control of their own behaviors and goals. This sense of being able to take direct action will result in real change and plays a major part in helping people feel self-determined.
